Using Water Guard Moisture Control (WGMC) Desiccant Sachets
WGMC Desiccant Sachets are a simple, easy, and economical solution for the control of moisture and high relative humidity in enclosed cases and cabinets. It significantly delays or prevents corrosion and tarnishing of your valuable possessions in temporary or long-term storage. It also minimizes shrink-swell cycles in wood products. Please keep WGMC Desiccant Sachets in their factory sealed individual plastic or foil packages until you are ready to use them. When you open the individual packages containing the WGMC Desiccant Sachets, the granular material inside the sachet will be activated. When installed in an enclosure or case, WGMC Desiccant Sachets absorb moisture from the atmosphere and stabilizes the ambient relative humidity to a near constant level.

The Action of WGMC Desiccant Sachets

Once removed from their factory sealed plastic or foil packaging and are exposed to the environment, WGMC Desiccant Sachets will activate automatically. Then, over a period of hours or days, in an atmosphere of high relative humidity, the sachets will become soft putty like to the touch alternating between feeling firm and brittle as the moisture in the air decreases. 

The Durability of WGMC Desiccant Sachets

WGMC Desiccant Sachets not only have at least 10 times the holding capacity of moisture and free water (ordinary desiccants*Calcium Sulfate, Silica Gel, Activated Clay) it also does not need to be refilled or frequently replaced for a period of at least several years!

Extreme Conditions – Please Note

If you open one of your cases, cabinets, or boxes and notice a swollen WGMC Desiccant Sachets, this is an indication that liquid water has entered the enclosure. Check the seal of your case, cabinet, or box and repair or reseal, if necessary. Even though your WGMC Desiccant Sachets will regenerate itself when exposed to fresh air, we recommend replacing the swollen packet.  

Installation of WGMC Desiccant Sachets

Installation of WGMC Desiccant Sachets is simple and easy. Since moist air is lighter than dry air, moist air will rise to the top of an enclosure. Therefore, placing WGMC Desiccant Sachets in the upper one-third of a case, cabinet or storage box will work best. But if convenience dictates, placing a bag in the bottom of an enclosure will work too.

Uses for WGMC Desiccant Sachets

It is advisable to keep your WGMC Desiccant Sachets a slight distance away from your valuables as you want to attract the moisture to the Desiccant Sachets away from the valuables (do not put your valuables on top or underneath any Desiccant Sachets)

Select Proper Size Moisture Control Sachet for Enclosure

To determine cubic centimeters or cubic meters: multiply length x width x height of space. If the space is uneven, divide it up into smaller areas, calculate each cubic area and add all the areas up to get a total space size.

Cameras & Binoculars

Place a WGMC Desiccant Sachets in the Camera or Binocular case. The WGMC Desiccant Sachets can be placed in the bottom of the case, or in an interior pocket or on the inside of the lid. If there is a mesh or screen interior pocket, the Desiccant Sachets may be placed in there for convenience. The 3″ x 3″(75mm x 75mm) sachets are for use in the larger cases and the 2″ x 2″(50mm x 50mm) sachets are for the smaller cases.

Musical Instruments cases

Place a WGMC Desiccant Sachets on the inside of the lid of the instrument to be protected, away from the instrument. Do not stick the sachet directly onto the instrument.

Guns and Ammunition

Place a WGMC Desiccant Sachets in the case with a firearm or ammunition but not directly onto the firearm or ammunition. It is advisable to keep the WGMC WGMC Desiccant Sachets a slight distance away as you want to attract the moisture to the WGMC Desiccant Sachets away from the fire arm and ammunition, the WGMC Desiccant Sachets can be attached to the top inside cover of rifle, pistol, revolver or knife case. When using a WGMC Desiccant Sachets in a hand gun or rifle safe, place the WGMC Desiccant Sachets in the upper portion of the safe. (± 1/3rd from the top)

Fishing Tackle Boxes

Place a 2” x 2” (50mm x 50mm) WGMC Desiccant Sachets inside each small plastic case of your tackle box. Or Use a 3″ x 3″(75mm x 75mm) WGMC Desiccant Sachets inside the tackle box itself.

Tool Boxes

Tool BoxesPlace a 2” x 2” (50mm x 50mm) WGMC Desiccant Sachets in each compartment of your tool box. If you have a large standing tool box with multiple drawers, place one 3″ x 3″(75mm x 75mm) WGMC Desiccant Sachets in each drawer.
